Hello, I'm Kevin Zong. I'm a full stack developer with 2 years of experience. I enjoy building websites & scalable cloud apps.
About me
I'm a former software development engineer at Amazon Web Services. I spent 2 years in the Builder Tools organization building scalable distributed backend services and tools to support internal developers building applications with AWS. I graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2021 with a B.S. in Computer Engineering and a citation from the Advanced Cybersecurity Experience for Students (ACES) honors college.
When I'm not coding, you'll probably find me learning a new song on the guitar or cruising around on my e-bike. I grew up playing hockey, but I've also recently picked up a knack for golf and volleyball. And as an Eagle Scout, I love pretty much anything outdoors, especially hiking, snowboarding, and paddleboarding.

My experience
Software Development Engineer
Amazon Web Services - Seattle, WA
- Scaled infrastructure to improve stability, reliability, and latency for an internal pipeline service protecting over 40K developers from hazardous configuration changes.
- Collaborated with 8 teams on company-wide infrastructure as code initiatives to define and encapsulate engineering best practices and orchestrate internal resources.
- Designed and integrated a data pipeline to generate metrics that correlated best practice initiatives with a 16% improvement in overall developer productivity.
Software Development Engineer Intern
Amazon Web Services - Remote
- Worked in an agile environment to design and implement an AWS Cloud Development Kit (CDK) construct for internal AWS accounts.
- Streamlined a previously manual workflow by enabling the creation and management of accounts through an infrastructure as code approach.
Private Computer Science Tutor
Washington Metro Consultants - Potomac, MD
- Introduced high school students to Java and fundamental programming concepts such as object oriented programming, data structures, and algorithms.
- All of my students earned a 5 on the AP Computer Science A exam.
Undergraduate Research Fellow
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) - Gaithersburg, MD
- Developed a Simple Network Management Protocol (SMNP) network manager with Java to monitor and control quantum devices within NIST’s Platform for Quantum Network Innovation.
- Increased development efficiency by creating a remote, adaptable, and scalable method of managing networks.
Undergraduate Research Fellow
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) - Gaithersburg, MD
- Created an automated interface with MATLAB and LabVIEW that enabled the analysis of time correlation measurements too complex for pre-existing tools, eliminating a crucial limitation in the development of quantum repeaters.
